Kampong Thom - Small Beautiful City in Cambodia
The second biggest province of Cambodia is Kampong Thom which has the capital with the same name. It is a beautiful city lying on Stung Saen River’s bank. It is famous for Prei Kuk and Sambor Temple. Besides, there are some other spots of Angkor.
In the period of Funan, it was extremely forceful in the area of Southeast Asia. After that, when the city was dominated by French colonists, there were a huge number of Stieng people living here. However, these people were brought into resemblance with Khmer people. Its early name was Kampong Pos Thom. Legend has it said that there were 2 massive snakes living in a huge grotto at the Sen River pier nearby a large lake. They often appeared in Buddhist vacation. When they vanished, people call the city Kampong Pos Thom. For the convenience of speaking, it was changed into Kampong Thom. When Cambodia was dominated be the French, it was separated to provinces which were called based on the Kampong Thom residents.

Provincial capital of Kampong Thom which located on Stung Sen River’s bank is very crowded. It is situated between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh on Freeway 6. Not only a place to take a rest or have a meal after a long way traveling to Phnom Penh or to Siem Reap, it also a tourist attraction where visitors can spend time experience Prasat Preah Vihear, the ancient capital city of Ankor Chenla “Sambor Prei Kuk” and secluded Preah Khan Temple.
